During the counter-culture revolutions beards were banned from BYU campus (and since on all BYU campuses).
This practice of mandatory beard shaving is antiquated and no longer representative of current social norms.
Beards should be allowed back on BYU campuses because they no longer represent the counter culture movement.
In fact, recent studies show the opposite and that beards may actually increase levels of perceived levels of maturity.
With no formal system for amendment to the grooming practices enforced by the BYU honor code we are formally petitioning BYU to revise their current practice of mandatory shaving of beards in favor of a more fitting policy where beards are allowed.
We, the undersigned, call on BYU to revise its current stance on beards on campus among students and faculty and allow beards to be a professional part of the campus environment.
