FACTS Barnstable Sign Code Zoning Regulations
a) Prohibited Uses Under current sign code:
Under the current sign code "Any sign attached to public or private utility poles, trees, signs or other appurtenances located within the right of way of a public way."
b) Signs advertising products, sales, events or activities which are painted upon or otherwise attached to poles, benches, barrels, buildings, traffic signal boxes, posts, trees, sidewalks, curbs, rocks, and windows regardless of construction or application"
c) Signs on or over Town property, except as authorized by the Building Commissioner for temporary signs for non-profit, civic, educational, charitable and municipal agencies"
d) One temporary sign not to exceed 4 feet square in areas advertising property for sale, lease or rent. Such signs must be removed within ten days of transfer of property.
4-3.25 Illegal Signs:
1. Illegal signs: "the Building Commissioner can establish an order of removal for illegal signs which may then be removed by the Building Commissioner following due procedures of law,"
4-3.28 Penalties "$100 per day for violations".
We the undersigned, call on the Town Manager John Klimm, Director of Regulatory Services, Tom Geiler and Building Commissioner TOM PERRY to adopt NOW an amendment to the current sign code and zoning while providing opportunity for local businesses to survive while also protecting the historic character of our town including parks and public places.
