Listen it’s been done in other places. We can use electric ones or rakes or better yet, let someone invent a quieter motor that doesn’t pollute as much. It’ll only happen if there’s a demand and that demand will only materialize if municipalities start banning the old two stroke engine. Noisy two stroke jet skis are also beening banned from many waterways because of the noise. Two stroke engines are old tech and lousy at making horsepower quietly and cleanly.
The noise, the smell, and the mess! This is a petition to ban gas powered leaf blowers from our municipality. With the pandemic in full force and many of us working from home (and it is likely will be the norm for the foreseeable future) the noise, dust and general pollution these machines create far too often disrupts the day. I cannot tell you how many times last summer my family and/or friends were enjoying our properties outside (social distancing) when along came a gas powered leaf blower indiscriminately disrupting, what was otherwise a very pleasant day. They don’t take a few minutes either, your lovely afternoon is officially over once these blowers arrive.
This will tremendously reduce both air and noise pollution in our town. With more and more people working from home the time of day should no longer be the only restriction preventing these extremely loud 2 stroke devices from polluting our beautiful little town.
Studies have been done, many others have banned these machines and the results are always positive!

BAN ALL GAS POWERED LEAF BLOWERS
The public health benefits for banning GAS leaf blowers are greater than ones private right to inexpensive garden maintenance. There are cheap, viable, zero emissions options for people who prefer perfectly manicured landscapes. It is fair to expect these individuals to pay a slightly higher service cost as opposed to allowing them to pollute the environment in pursuit of their aesthetic ambition.
Leaf blowers pose the greatest threat to the health and hearing of the untold numbers of landscape workers who use them on a daily basis, in most cases without adequate protective equipment, for intervals that far exceed OSHA guidelines.
A leaf blower ban will reduce carbon emissions in our community and therefore improve the health and quality of life of its citizens.
Because they are designed to be air-cooled, the engines release 100% of their tailgate emissions directly into the environment. Small sources of emissions, such as leaf blowers, can add up to be large polluters.
Leaf blowers are a significant source of noise pollution in our community.
Leaf blowers depredate soil quality. Gasoline-driven leaf blowers have been banned in scores of regions across North America, including Los Angeles and hundreds of municipalities across the U.S. and Canada, and none of the horrors that were predicted by landscapers - untidy lawns, escalating costs, declining property values - have ever come to pass. In fact in a post-pandemic work-from-home, world the exact opposite is likely to be the case!
Join your fellow residents in requesting that the City of Hampstead permanently ban these machines from our jurisdiction.
