I would like to submit a petition to National Geographic to stop using the term "Killer Whale" to describe the Orca. They are not whales at all, but the largest toothed mammal of the Dolphin Species.

They may be proficient hunters, but do not attack or kill humans in the wild. So, to call an Orca a Killer Whale is a falsehood. In getting National Geographic to ban the use of the term, I believe it will lead others in phasing out the term for good.

We, the undersigned, are calling on The National Geographic Magazine to stop referring to the Orca as a Killer Whale in their articles. Orcas are not whales, but the largest toothed member of the Dolphin Family. Orcas are proficient hunters, but do not attack or kill humans in the wild.

The term Killer Whale is a gross falsehood against these intelligent and family oriented creatures.

We, the undersigned, believe that if National Geographic Magazine complies and agrees it will go a long way in ridding the use of the term "killer Whale." That the influence of National Geographic could set the bar and tone for phasing out the term in other magazines, and the Marine Parks that hold them captive.

Thank you for your consideration.
