The N. C. Wildlife Resources Commission need to enact a law making a one mile exclusion zone around piers to all fishing vessels. This should include all netting, trolling, gigging, and fishing of all types.
By making fishing inside of on mile of a pier an arrestable offense, which would only make twenty miles of the North Carolina coast no boat fishing zone out of the three hundred and one miles of coast line, this will improve the pier(s) business, and keep the pier(s) a viable place to fish without the threat of losing fish or terminal tackle to vessels fishing.
The lack of this law also creates safety issues to occupants on fishing vessels and occupants on the pier(s). By pushing these vessels out would greatly reduce the risk of collisions.
We the North Carolina Pier fishers need to come together, and ask for stiffer penalties.
We want to stop vessel operators that routinely fish too close to pier(s), compromising pier fishers' safety and the ability to fish the pier(s).
By making a one mile exclusion zone to fishing vessels, this will improve pier safety, profitability, and fishery.
