Ban Elephants In the Circus Once and For All

My name is Brittney Rodriguez. I am currently a student-athlete at State College of Florida. I have always have a love and passion for animals of all shapes and sizes. I am majoring in Zoology and Pre-Veterinary Medicine. I would love to travel the world as a veterinarian someday to be the change and helping hand to all animals who need it.
What caught my eye and led me to want to start my petition was a video I saw on Facebook. It was cruelty and abusive acts towards elephants in the circus. I did some digging and saw that Ringling Bros. and Barnum and Bailey Circus ended their elephant acts by this year. And then I did a little more research to see if other smaller circuses would end their use too once and for all. In 2006, the New York Times article described the trauma elephants undergo in captivity: “Being kept in relative confinement and isolation [is] a kind of living death for an animal as socially developed and dependent as we now know elephants to be,” author Charles Siebert wrote. So, I thought to myself, "How could someone intentionally abuse such a beautiful and smart creature?". I wanted to make a stand not only for them but for all other animal lovers throughout the world.
"Illinois has taken an unprecedented stand against those who wish to exploit animals for profit, as the Prairie State becomes the first in the nation to ban all traveling elephant acts!" That was written by Zachary Toliver on a website I found Animals Are Not Ours. This was signed into law by the governor and a person breaking this new rule commits a Class A misdemeanor and could face some jail time.
After the Ringling Bros. and Barnum and Bailey stopped their elephant acts, it definitely made it hard from other circuses to be encouraged or supported with theirs. Elephants are injured and abused doing these dangerous and crazy acts for performance. I feel this ruthless and barbaric abuse could potentially lead to human abuse as well. So I wanna be the one to stand for elephant acts to be completely banned for good.
