The Great Lakes Shire Council have released a Draft Plan of Management for the future development of the Seal Rocks Camping Reserve. The camping reserve at Number One Beach is and always has been a low cost camping reserve for the public. The Land Property Management Authority has recently taken back management of the reserve from Great Lakes Council and we are awaiting their response when submissions are read and an alternate draft is made public.
The Committee and its members reject the draft plan as it is grandiose and is out of harmony with the ambience and atmosphere that this beautiful place of the Mid North Coast has and does offer all visitors and locals alike.
Nobody wants to see this Camping Reserve changed into a Resort Style development. People love Seal Rocks for what it is and we believe that the Land Property Management Authority keep this reserve as a camping reserve and focus its attention on OH&S issues that will make the reserve a place where campers wish to return to. At present their are problems with drainage, sewage management, clean drinking water and fire management. The reserve has been evacuated in the past during fires and yet there continues to be no fire hydrants.
Great Lakes Shire Council has lost touch with their constituents and were acting in the interests of State Government Bureaucrats rather than the interests of the local community, residents and it's visitors.
We the under signed support the petition as set out in its entirety and oppose the plans by the Land Property Management Authority in their draft plan of management.
The Great Lake Council have handed the five reserves back to The Land Property Management Authority and we are awaiting their response following review of submissions made. We are opposed to the resort style development and wish to see the reserve remain a low cost camping reserve for the public.
We would like to see improvements to the Sewerage system, proper drainage to prevent constant flooding and fire hydrants to protect campers from the constant danger of fires. We do not wish to see the overcommercialisation of this iconic camping reserve and believe that the building of a resort style development will make holidaying at the reserve unaffordable to the patrons who have frequented this place for many decades.
