The final step in the West Trail Study Area (TSA) process is here! Will the Boulder mountain bike ban be eliminated? Will bikes be allowed in the area between Eldorado Springs Drive and Linden Avenue west of Broadway/93? Staff said no. OSBT said maybe. Now city council gets to decide.
Your voice is critical to get reasonable and responsible access to trails we can ride from our front doors. Please sign this petition and show up Tuesday 3/15, 6pm at Boulder High School to tell council that we are not a special interest, we are the very fabric of this community!
Mountain bikers (and BMA) are the most engaged and service oriented user group in Boulder County. BMA has 20 years of volunteer service, trail construction, maintenance, patrolling, and visitor education. We are the present and future of open space stewardship.
We are the reason the county open space tax issue passed last year. It's time for city council to recognize our reasonable and responsible request for access to 4-8 miles out of 128 in the West TSA. Your involvement is critical to accomplishing this goal.
I am a mountain biker who lives, works, and plays in the Boulder area. I support limited access for mountain bikes in the West TSA. First, I want city council to direct staff to hire a third party professional trail design consultant and to work with BMA to develop a shared-use trail concept on Anemone Hill.
Second, I want city council to say "yes" to a shared-use trail connecting the core of Boulder to the existing shared-use Doudy Draw trail system.
I reject the OSMP staff's assertions that the tiny portion of the trail system that may be opened to bikes (some 5%) will add unacceptable environmental damage and that user interactions due to this small bike access will cause "irreconcilable" conflicts despite the fact that such shared use trails are the successful norm elsewhere in Boulder County and throughout the Colorado Front Range.
It's high time to bring mountain bikers into the fold. Please accept us as citizens, as neighbors, and as the current and future open space stewards that we are.
