The Star Spangled Banner Lyrics 4th Verse
By Francis Scott Key 1814
Oh! thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand
Between their loved home and the war's desolation!
Blest with victory and peace, may the heav'n rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation.
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: "In God is our trust."
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!
PURPOSE OF PETITION
For the purpose of national unity we believe a declaration of our nation’s motto in the singing of the 4th verse of The Star Spangled Banner should be exercised and made of public governmental record on both the state and federal levels to further the general welfare of the citizens of the United States of America.

PETITION SUMMARY
We the undersigned, are in agreement with the five points listed below and believe for the purpose of national unity a declaration of our nation’s motto in the singing of the 4th verse of The Star Spangled Banner should be exercised and made of public governmental record on both the state and federal levels to further the general welfare of the citizens of the United States of America.
1. Whereas, the singing of the 4th stanza of the Star Spangled Banner, declaring our nation’s motto would be a continuous reminder to American citizens to place their trust in God as the source of our nation’s protection, prosperity, and blessing,
2. Whereas, the singing of the 4th stanza of the Star Spangled Banner, declaring our nation’s motto, would be a source of national pride and unity—instilling within the citizens of the United States a deeper level of patriotism,
3. Whereas, 2014 marks the 200th anniversary of the writing of our national anthem, we the American people want to commemorate and celebrate this historic part of our American heritage,
4. Whereas, the singing of the 4th stanza of the Star Spangled Banner, declaring our nation’s motto, would restore this part of our American history—that for the most part has been lost,
5. Whereas, the singing of the 4th stanza of the Star Spangled Banner, declaring our nation’s motto would be a simplified way for the American people to declare their national motto.
