Allow Hats at WHS

Here at Waunakee Community High School, hats are banned from being worn in school. We believe that this rule should be abolished. Common arguments for why this rule is in place include the following: disrespectful, distracting, gang relations, and items can be hidden in them.

We believe that these arguments are invalid and no longer apply. There is no disrespect seen by wearing hats inside anymore in our society. A phone is much more distracting than a hat being worn, yet they are allowed in school at certain times. At Waunakee High School, it is uncommon for gangs to be related to hat wearing.

We are allowed to wear any hat we want at football games. If they caused violence we would be having problems at the games, but we aren't and never have. Lastly, if the argument is that items can be hidden in a hat, things can be hidden in pockets, clothes, and backpacks. So surely those items must be banned too, but they logically are not.
