Allow Delgado Community College students to decorate their graduation caps
- Target:
- Delgado Community College Graduation Committee
- Region:
- United States of America
Decorating ones graduation cap can be considered a right of passage. This is a fun way of self expression that has been earned by each graduate. The graduates at DCC are as diverse as the city the school resides in. Many of the students are first generation college graduates. DCC has many single mothers and fathers. DCC is filled with students who work full time jobs and yet still manage to earn their degrees. No matter where the student came from or how they got there, they have earned the right to be proud of themselves and their accomplishments. I understand that DCC would like to show decorum at their graduations. However, we do not see how the decoration of boards lessens this. Ivy league schools such as Brown, Harvard, Princeton, and Yale allow their graduates to do what we are asking.
As graduates we understand that DCC would like to retain a sense of class and as this is our graduation we want the same. This being said, we would agree to submitting designs for approval. We agree that no profanity, violence, or drug related pictures or references would be approved. We also agree that at graduation check in our hats would have to be shown to make sure the guidelines were followed.
We the undersigned call to the Graduation Committee at Delgado Community College, located in New Orleans, LA to change their policy regarding the rule stating that graduates are not permitted to decorate their boards on their graduation caps. We would like this rule to be change to permit said decoration.
