Thank you to everyone who signed this petition. It was a great effort. The petition was presented to Sunshine Coast Council by Division 12 Councillor, Tony Wellington, on 26 July 2012. Although we did not achieve total rejection of the revised Quarry Management Plan, Councillors have responded to the seriousness of our concerns and voted 10 votes to 2 to approve the plan in part only, subject to a long list of amendments which we fought hard for. Though we might have to accept a quarry, it will be a much better regulated operation than the operator applied for.
Sunshine Coast Council will soon decide whether or not to approve a revised management plan for this open cut quarry. We strongly believe that the new plan takes away many of the safeguards approved in the existing plan and your support is vital to show Council that the overwhelming majority of local residents disapprove of this development.

A revised Quarry Management Plan submitted by Neilsens Quality Gravels Pty Ltd for the Kin Kin Quarry, located in the UNESCO Noosa Biosphere Reserve, is to go before Council for approval.
Rather than advancing the standard of quarry management, we believe the revised plans move the project further away from best practice principles, including:
* Inadequate sedimentation controls,
* Failure to provide basic infrastructure,
* The removal of set time limits for staged rehabilitation,
* Unsustainable use of multiple diesel mobile crushers,
* Diesel powered electricity supply and,
* No long term management plan for the massive lake which will be created.
As signatories to this petition we urge Councillors to consider wisely and vote against these plans to prevent the environmental and social upheaval that will ensue.
