Lethbridge School District No. 51 has proposed to have an Islamic Academy within Wilson Middle School for the 2017/2018 school year, if sufficient interest is identified.
The academy would be taking up a wing of Wilson Middle School and would include learning the Arabic language, Islamic culture (even though there are much larger cultures who have been here forever) and incorporating Muslim faith-based practices (even though all other religions have been removed from the public school system) while following Alberta curriculum content for each grade level.
The program would begin in September of 2017, with classes for students in Kindergarten, all the way to Grade 6. Students from all across the city would be eligible to take up spaces in our kids school. Starting with at least 60 students, and adding one grade every year until Grade 12. We, the undersigned, call on Lethbridge School District 51 to eliminate the proposed idea of an Islamic Academy promoting Muslim faith-based practices in our public middle school (Wilson Middle School) which our tax dollars have paid for. Religion and Ideology does not belong in our public schools and has not been allowed for any other culture.
