Target:
To stop GPs and pharmacies charging for prescription formula for infants with allergies
Region:
United Kingdom

My son who is lactose intolerant AND has a cow's milk protein allergy (CMPA) can only have a prescription milk called Neocate LCP.

The GP has told me that they will only prescribe half of his monthly allowance and I have to buy the rest as it's not fair on parents that have to buy formula, BUT, for a regular tub of 900g formula is approx £12, and for 900g of Neocate is approx £110!

There is no alternative as there is LACTOSE in breastmilk so not even an elimination diet is possible. if it were just the CMPA then breastfeeding would be possible but unfortunately this is not the case. My son would use 2 900g tubs in a week, the GP would prescribe half which leaves me to buy £110 of formula each week, that's double what I would spend on a week's food shopping!
We have tried many different formulas including Aptamil Pepti, Nutramigen and Nutramigen AA neither of these were suitable which leaves Neocate as the last resort.

My son is currently only 8 weeks so his milk intake will increase and soon will be needing more, also once he starts weaning onto food he cant have any dairy so the formula has to be used to make up any foods that require it.

Please sign my petition.

We, the undersigned, call on the Oxfordshire health service (NHS) and Oxfordshire PCT to stop charging for medical infant formula and prescribe it to those who need it or reduce the retail price of Neocate LCP to that of regular formula.
