After revision of the curriculums for both Grades 1 to 8 and Grades 9 to 12, it is clear that the Health and Physical Education course lacks units that discuss and educate students about:
- keeping an ideal mental health (ex. maintaining stress, anxiety, tension, aggression and more)
- the key differences between mental fitness and illness (ex. exercising mental techniques, discussing with the class or teacher and seeking help regarding both)
- how mental state directly relates to how physical active you are (ex. motivation, encouragement, excitement, goals, clear mind, etc.)
- certain mental factors and how they can affect your personal, social, school and work life (ex. eating habits, concerns with weight, negative environments, etc.)
We, the undersigned, call upon Ontario's Ministry of Education to consider revising the Health and Physical Education Curriculum to involve aspects and units of Mental Health and Fitness.
