We, the residents of Tarneit, are deeply concerned about the ongoing delays in completing the Polly Parade connection to Derrimut Road. The lack of progress has caused long detours, congestion, and safety risks. We urge Wyndham City Council to intervene, facilitate a resolution between the land developers of both the Tarneit Town Centre and 645 Derrimut Road and provide a clear timeline for the road’s completion
We, the residents of Tarneit, are deeply concerned about the ongoing delays in completing the Polly Parade connection to Derrimut Road, including the red-light intersection. This missing link is causing daily detours, congestion, and safety risks for our community.
The delay is primarily due to land access and development issues involving the following parties:
Intaj (Developer of 645 Derrimut Road): Purchased and settled the land in November 2024 and is willing to build the Polly Parade road connection. Intaj has submitted planning permits to Council and is ready to proceed with construction but cannot start without access to part of the adjacent land needed for the intersection.
Denise Family (Owners/Developers of the Tarneit Major Town Centre, opposite 645 Derrimut Road): Their land is required for the construction of the intersection. However, they are currently refusing access because allowing the intersection on their land would trigger GAIC (Growth Areas Infrastructure Contribution) and DCP (Development Contributions Plan) charges, which they are not prepared to pay at this time.
Wyndham City Council (Cr Josh, Mayor Cr Mia Shaw, and planning officers): Council is responsible for facilitating approvals, negotiations, and ensuring critical infrastructure is delivered. Residents believe Council must actively mediate between Intaj and the Denise Family to unblock the project, rather than leaving the community to fight for itself.
We urge Wyndham City Council to take immediate action to:
1.Facilitate a resolution between Intaj and the Denise Family regarding land access.
2.Explore GAIC/DCP cost offsets, planning incentives, or alternative designs to allow construction.
3.Consider legal avenues, including compulsory acquisition, if voluntary agreements cannot be reached promptly.
4.Provide a clear and realistic timeline for completion and regular updates to residents.
The residents of Tarneit cannot wait any longer. This project is essential for the safety, accessibility, and livability of our community, and we ask Council to act decisively to deliver this critical infrastructure.
