Abolish capital punishment

Capital punishment, also more commonly called the death penalty is the execution of criminals for capital offences hence the name capital punishment. In the course of history almost every country had capital punishment at one time or another in order to keep order and to make examples of criminals that did many unforgivable acts.

The criminals that are usually given the death penalty are men and women that have done crimes such as murder, rape, manslaughter and less commonly treason, robbery, espionage. In many countries that have the death penalty drug trafficking is considered a crime worthy of capital punishment. There were also many different and creative forms of the death penalty, these include: Asphyxiation, boiling to death, burning, breaking on the wheel, burial, decapitation, crucifixion, electrocution, flaying and many more.

Capital punishment is an extremely controversial issue that brings up many important points on either side. On the pro side they say that it decreases the amount of crime because people are afraid to die, and they believe that murder is a fair punishment to someone that has murdered someone. On the other side they believe that life imprisonment is a better punishment then the death penalty, it goes against people that are poor or a minority in specific parts of the world and it also goes against our human rights which is supposedly in place from the day we are born. Though we have these rights 52 % of the world is still for capital punishment.

As a roman catholic my religion believes that the death penalty, abortion and euthanasia or just different types of murder. This was instated by Pope John-Paul the 2 in his encyclical evangelium vitae. As a catholic I believe that if there is a way to create justice in a form that does not take the criminals life I am supposed to do so. But this was not always so, before Pope John-Paul the 2nd came along the Christian faith was not against or for capital punishment. We believe that capital punishment is not a good from of punishment because even though that person made a mistake and he committed a serious crime we should not be allowed to sentence him to death because firstly we do not know 100% that he committed this crime and who are we to judge this man and hold his fate in out hands. That right belongs to God alone.

Therefore I personally believe that it should be abolished.
