Lexington residents lack a year round public swimming facility. With a facility, a variety of individual and group activities could be provided to residents from 2 to 92. These include aquatherapy, aquajogging, triathalon, boot camp, master’s swim, aqua zumba and swim lessons. The physical and mental health benefits of swimming are well researched.
The Lexington High School swim teams lack a permanent swimming facility. The current facility, Minuteman Tech is scheduled to be demolished in 2019. Even with this shared facility, Lexington had to cut students from the swim team, and could only offer a single boys team and girls team. With a year round facility, Lexington could add junior varsity teams rather than cutting students and add additional sports such as water polo to provide more opportunities for our growing high school.

We ask the Recreation Committee to prioritize a year round swimming pool facility in the capital plan and appoint a committee to identify options for location, fund-raising, and services.
