On May 1st 2007, 32 year old Manuel Medina died in a Motorcycle collision as a Toyota RAV4 SUV cut into his path while making a left turn onto southbound Grove from Fifth.
On April 26th 2008, 12 year old Carlos Sevilla died after being ejected from a Cadillac Escalade hit by a Toyota Sienna Van turning left onto southbound Grove from Fifth. Both Medina and Sevilla had been traveling North on Grove while struck. On February 3rd, 2008, Simon Francisco Simon-Pedro was crossing Grove just above 5th while hit by two vehicles who fled the scene.
On May 3rd 2007, Ontario Police detective Robert Freire, reported that the dangerous intersection had had at least 15 crashes in the prior two and a half years. After a three car collision resulted in Carlos Sevilla’s death, Police Detective Jeff Higbee also confirmed, “We have had several accidents in that area.” Not only has the Ontario P.D. taken notice, Bill Issa, owner of Mario’s Pizza at Princeton and Grove Avenue, stated, “Every few months there’s an accident at Princeton and Grove or at Fifth and Grove. People come fast on Grove.” He reported seeing numerous accidents in the area involving cars and pedestrians.
We, the undersigned, call to the City of Ontario, to reduce the speed limit on 5th and Grove from 45 to 35, and to enforce right turns only on 5th and Grove Avenue.
