Music in general goes through trends. A current trend in recorded music is to make albums as loud as possible by compressing the music and crushing dynamics out of the sound. In the worst cases, the music sounds so distorted that listening to it is uncomfortable.
The latest Metallica album, Death Magnetic, is the worst casualty in the "Loudness Wars". The album is so sonically destroyed and clipped that a petition was made to remix and remaster it.

We, the music lovers and consumers of the world, want this trend to stop. We love music, and would like to hear every note, cymbal, and detail. We are asking all record labels, producers, bands, and audio engineers to stop this destruction of sound.
