The UK Save Oriental City Petition Campaign commenced on March 13, 2007 and called on The Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, Ruth Kelly MP and The Planning Inspectorate to Call In the Oriental City planning application for a public inquiry.

The planning application attracted objections and concerns from the Chinese Embassy, MPs, London Assembly Members, the Commission for Racial Equality and BAME Community Organisations. Former Arsenal Football Club Striker, Mr Ian Wright lent his support to the campaign by presenting 5000 letters of objection to The Mayor of London’s Office on 4 December 2006. The Mayor received at least 10,000 objection letters.

Today the campaign organisers reported good news on the GoPetition.com website:

"The campaign was very successful, thank you to everyone who supported and signed the petition. An agreement has now been reached between the developers and the oriental city tenants association. The Oriental City will remain open until May 2008, please do come and visit the Oriental City!"

Campaigners, happy with the hard earned results, also praised GoPetition.com:

"This is a fantastic site, will definately recommend it and use it in the future!! Thank you so much!"
