The China Post has reported that a global online petition supporting Taiwan's bid to join the United Nations has been launched by Taiwan diplomatic officials in Los Angeles.

The Republic of China on Taiwan has been shut out of the United Nations since 1971, when U.N. Resolution No. 2758 gave the China seat to Beijing at Taiwan's expense. While Resolution No. 2758 resolved the issue of China's U.N. representation, it did not address the issue of the representation of Taiwan's people, officials from the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in L.A. said.
