People can use any capacity car as long as they abide by the road rules - why not electric bikes - As long as they abide by the speed limits and rules applicable to the road or bike path. People with drivers licenses should be able to use higher capacity unrestricted speed bikes. I agree that anything less than 350W is a waste of time and restricting the speed to 25km/h especially for a pedelec does not make any sense. Does the government demand cars sold to be limited to the current speed limits of the current - NO, it relies on drivers and enforcement to keep drivers to the speed limits- So why are cyclists treated differently? It is unfair and unconstitutional

Note: athletes can put out double this amount, and they generally ride light bikes and are light themselves, so a normal person on a bike with extra weight (batteries etc) limited to 500watts is still being reserved compared to what competative riders may do on unpowered bicycles.
