Sports Clubs such as Eastcote HC are not just about 70 minutes of sport at a weekend - its about teaching youngsters life skills and allowing hockey players of all ages to participate in a sport that can sustain them physically and socially all their adult lives.

Hockey clubs all over the UK compete for their members social time. Central to maintaining a thriving community hockey club are good facilities. Eastcote HC deserve these facilities and a successful application will allow future generations of hockey players to thrive in the heart of your local community. I am a visiting hockey umpire who sees first hand not just the clubs members enjoying playing hockey but much more.

I would ask that the wider benefit to the community is taken into consideration over narrow self interest of local residents.

This is key, as there are record numbers of young and old people who suffer from obesity. Also by giving young people responsibility in a team may have a positive influence and aid in enriching them with life skills and may also reduce crime on the street. There may be a link in the lack of local sports facilities and the increase of solitary activities such as video games. As land is taken up by residential buildings, there is a desperate need to provide local sports facilities as this nation is passionate about sports as was shown in the glorious success of the the London Olympics. In Holland a club this size has at least 2 or 3 artificial pitches, simply to be able to play all home matches at the same location and to enhance club spirit. However, apart from that, artificial pitches allow for much more intensive use during weekdays and by other sports clubs or schools. Grass pitches need to recover during weekdays and/or cannot be used by anybody due to certain weather conditions (rain, snow, frost). The past year being the second wettest in recorded history only goes to prove this point. How many football matches had to be cancelled in 2012 due to flooded pitches? With an extra artificial pitch many kids wouldn't have had to be disappointed. With an extra pitch, not only the hockey community will be able to accommodate the demand for more training and matches (which you really need to beat the Netherlands...), but the entire local community will get more possibilities to provide kids with sporting opportunities. Which again seems to be perfectly in line with government policy to fight obesity amongst all, but especially kids. So, look beyond the interest of some and focus on the interest of many!

I play, umpire at Eastcote Hockey Club (EHC) having switched, in 2007, from Harrow HC, who had no local artificial pitch unlike EHC. One of the reasons I changed clubs was the local artificial pitch.

A second pitch would reduce my travelling and many others to and from EHC, Harefield AC & Brunel Uni pitches. On Sundays the Hockey Club runs a split junior coaching session at EHC & Harefield, with a second pitch the whole activity would be in one location allowing parents with two or more kids to attend avoiding additional travelling.

I am the AGSL at 2nd/9th Rusilip Scout Group and will be more able to make use of the artificial pitches for the youngsters, likewise other local groups will also have the same advantages.

My wife works at Bourne Primary and each year takes a group for a taster hockey session, appreciated by all the kids. 2nd pitch would allow more local schools to come and enjoy these sessions.

Another pitch will promote local sports, perhaps even hosting the London Youth Games here!
