Numberof children we are allowed to have? The size of house we are allowed to live in? The amount of travel we can do per year? All quite plausible and could be "sold" as good ideas. This is what the govenment is doing to the people of this country. This MUST NOT be allowed to happen.

One of the greatest joys in life is watching my dog run free with other dogs, playing to their hearts content. Where does it all end. George Orwell in his book 1984 did not go far enough, what a sorry state we live in. Its time to stand up & be counted & say no to all this nonsense. I want the Great back in Great Britian not this pitiful state where horrid councils snoop in our bins & try to ban dog walking. What next !!!

As a disabled person myself, I have had the capability of walking my dog on his lead, through no fault of my own, after a very bad car accident left me disabled. This order is a complete and utter joke and I am very against it. How are dogs supposed to get the sufficient exercise they need to thrive if orders like this are allowed? Its completely rediculous.

Ms Kay Mawson, Manchester
Why is Elmbridge Council determined to persecute dog owners? England has always been known as a dog friendly country and so it should remain. Walking a dog on a lead does not give the dog the exercise it needs and could be seen as a form of cruelty. Also, why the three dog rule? As a professional dog walker this would wipe out my business. In addition, dog-walking is an excellent form of exercise (vital to a human's health), not to mention the social aspects. Please re-consider, thank you.

There are no ground nesting birds in Elmbridge as admitted by the council so no control is legal.Dog control orders would penalise the law abiding majority without affecting the irresponsible feckless few. It would also make the voters think very hard about future council elections and whether to support people who seem bent on destroying a way of life in Cobham.

Aint broke, why fix it. Just waste of council funds at taxpayers expense. Many more urgent issues to deal with. Meddling bureaucracy into every little part of people's daily lives very annoying. Must be something better for the council to busy themselves with rather than pick on dogwalkers. Who on earth dreamt this up. What a shocking waste of time and effort on something so silly. Do something important instead.

There are ample laws to deal with these people.
To penalise responsible dog owners by restricting their movements is unfair.

mrs Sara Marchington, Claygate
I am against the dog controls being introduced into Elmbridge. No thought has been given to the cost implications for enforcing the controls. No budget has been set aside for this by Elmbridge. The council needs to spend its - OUR money more wisely. The online questionnaire is also flawed.

Miss Anna Scholte, Hampton
The proposed Dog Control Order targets a lot of open spaces mostly used by dogowners on a daily basis. (Probably 95% of the people I meet every day have a dog with them!) Is the council aware of the consequences of taking away those areas for dog walking or restricting them? Un-socialized dogs, people having to travel further to find a dog-walking place (environmental and traffic issues) etc. etc. I'm sure there are other (more creative) solutions to possible dog-related problems!
