Why take away the shade, why put people's business in jeopardy by making them reapply when they have relied on that business. I am so shocked about what is happening. The Rocks Market has been an institution for so long. I go there from time to time, take overseas visitors and buy things to take back to the UK when I go. It looks as if this will spell the end of the Rocks Market as we know it which would be a great loss to Sydney. I want the SHFA to keep the canopy - it's what gives the market its own personality. And don't they realise that by removing it, and so exposing the stallholders and shoppers to intense sunlight for hours on end, they will be discouraging tourists from colder climes, who actually really like the market as it is now, when it has plenty of shade.

Without the canopy the heat in summer would be unbearable. The canopy is a shelter from rain and heat....please let it stay or else tourists and locals will stay away. I for one would not go near it if there was no canopy !!! Many others feel the same.

This market is a world wide tourist attractions and has served the City of Sydney for many years. If it isn't broken why change it?
This things I wanted to see most when I came to Australia both on Holiday and then to live was : The Opera House, The Coat Hanger and the Rocks Market, simply because these are the places along with the Barrier Reef etc., that we are told about. I love the rocks market as they are.

When my relatives and friends visit from New Zealand its always a place that I take them. Its almost always one of their favourite experiences.

The markets are unique compared with the other markets in Sydney which all seem to sell the same wares.

Leave the markets alone, no one I have spoken to about it agrees with the planned changes.

I ask, where did you get this crazy idea to change them.

As part of our job at the Consulate, we host visits from many Government delegations and other groups regularly. The Rocks market has always been a feature of these tours, as it as a unique and typically Sydney experiance for any visitor. It would be a real shame if we could not include these markets on our tours, due to no shelter in heat or bad weather, and also not being certain of which stallholders would be there, and therefore the quality of the markets.

These markets are unique.
It is also nice to know that when you visit the same stalls will be there, especially if you are after a special gift or other items from the same stall. With the same stalls being there it is easy to recommend it to friends as you know what is there.
It is also very busy each time I go and I visit these markets on a regular basis.

The rocks markets is a place to escape the commercial world of duplication we now live in. Nowadays when you visit many of our major towns you see a replica of your home town. The rocks is unique and to wander in any weather under a pleasant canopy adds to the atmosphere. I took my grandparents their as a young child when ever they visit from overseas and now my children take their cousins when they visit from overseas with their grandparnets. We had a market in our area a few years ago that was shut-down. I used to go there every Sunday and check out what was for sale.

My mum would give me, my 2 brothers and sister 15$ to spend. We always found something to spend it on and it was always a great experience.

The colour and variety of quality goods adds to the magic of The Rocks area and begs visitors to go on and explore this historical location. Keep the area the same, extend it if necessary - but to reduce or close it would be a great loss to Sydney's character.
