There are plenty of places with fences and gates and barbed wire and signage and routes etc etc. Yateley Common is different. It has never had these encumberances and never should. I don't understand why cattle cannot be grazed in temporary, movable enclosures instead of the whole common being permanently fenced and then divided into six 'compartments' with even more fencing. Furthermore the latest decision to fence off the small piece of green in front of our houses in Cricket Hill Lane (without any due consultation to us the residents) reduces the value of our houses and prohibits our children from playing games on the green - one of the main reasons to buy our house in the first place.

Cattle are notoriously unpredictable, very large and very heavy. Having lived in Devon as a child I know how they can act together as a 'pack' and be very frightening. Also I am not sure why the Common asks us to keep to paths and dogs on leads to avoid disturbing the ground nesting birds when they will soon have very heavy feet trampling on them?

It breaks my heart to hear the trees and natural beauty could go. Having been for a walk yesterday 13/4/14 many trees have gone and many more have had branches half cut so they just lie on the ground. What is the point in this? Its like mindless acts of vandalism. My oldest son was quite upset by it!! I thought this was common land and as such should remain for the people who wish to walk through the countryside as it is, NOT with cows on it. Local woodlands are getting scarce so what is the point in cutting down what we have?
Only found out about this today and it makes me mad!

The common offers a level of seclusion and safety which is unparalleled locally, away from the dangers of heavy traffic.
The introduction of cattle ammonia and the cattle themselves could damage any sensitive habitats as well as spoil the enjoyment of such beautiful heathland for the hundreds of regular users.
Potentially it could also lead to various compensation claims for any injury caused by the aforementioned livestock and cattle grids, gates etc.
