The weeping figs that are being cut down are right on the borderline of Riley Street and are in no affecting the buildings on campus. They are beautiful trees cut down for no reason.

I am dismayed the council have authorised the removal of these trees. Particularly in light of the request that I made to have a huge BRANCH removed from a neighbours tree, that is overhanging our clothes line. This request was NOT approved.

As a resident of Riley Street, I find it appaling that there has been no community consultation in this process from Council. My residence, and office over looks much of the ACU site, and particularly many of the trees marks for removal. They provide haven for wildlife, ensure my privacy from direct site of view to my counselling office,screen protection from noise omitting from ACU, gives valuable protection from the summer's heat and are a beautiful natural aspect of our immediiate environment

There has already been too much tree removal in the area. Further removal will severly diminish the special qualities of this part of North Sydney - close to CBD and yet full of trees, birds, wildlife. Also, the ACU is in a residential area and yet brings no benefits to local residents (except the these trees) and many disadvantages (parking, traffic, noise etc). Removal of these trees will eliminate the one saving grace of having ACU in this area. Please don't let them remove these trees!!!

The trees around the ACU are a vital part of the area - without these trees, in addition to the threats posed to the owls, the ACU would be turned into a sterile campus of bricks and mortar - the trees are a vital aesthetic - they soften the institution and provide natural relief to those who look at them. The trees are a natural beauty that whilst technically on ACU property are communal property - they help define the character of the residential area. Please save the trees.

It is wrong that North Sydney Council pushes DA approval through so quickly that residents do not have the chance to be informed, comment upon or contest changes to their environment. The Mayor, Genia McCaffery must explain why there was a lack of consultation on this matter.

These trees provide a sanctuary to many species of native birds, including the tawny frogmouth owls. Also possums. They also provide a natural screen to hide an International University from looking directly into residential properties. The University should not have been allowed to expand into a residential housing area

I am very dissapointed North Sydney Council condones removal of these mature trees whilst not approving development applications for alterations and additions to buildings that have a negligible impact on streetscape and amenity. I would like to see greater consistency from Council on how it protects and develops our environment. Reversing the approval process for the removal of these beautiful trees should be a big step in proving a commitment to all aspects of good urban design.
