I am now 18 so do not go there anymore, but alot of children do. Society nowadays is going so down hill with behaviour of children, drugs, sex, alcohol and shutting down this place will make it 100x worse. Children the age of 6 7 8 and so on attend this pace and as an older sister of a child who plays there would certainly rather her go there than having to play the streets watching all these bad behaved teenagers, who she just might turn out like if the rec is closed. The rec played a bug part in my life, the laughs, the tears and the fight I had their were most probably the best time of my childhood. Some people in ely can't afford to do things with their children, or can't afford to take them places. The rec offers this! It encourages young children too be the best they can be. Eg: the outdoor team staff taking them on trips teaching them new things that maybe they would want to do in life. And then general staff of the Rec are amazing and was like a second family to alot of people who suffered at home. I could write a lot more but hope this puts into words how big of a mistake closing it is.

We are one of the biggest council estates in the country and have very limited facilities for our children as it is. My children, nieces and nephews use this facility on a regular basis. The staff and facilities here are 2nd to none and play a big part in our children's upbringing. My children and extended family use these facilities on an almost daily basis, to close them down would be a travesty. Children would be forced to 'hang around' the streets which would be a recipe for disaster! So please reconsider!

Ely play centre provides a safe environment for children to play, for them to learn, and to develop self confidence, self esteem and self-reliance. It would be a tragedy and will have a massive negative impact on the children and community if the council succeed in their plans to destroy what little the children of Cardiff have, and value as a place of safety, somewhere they can be themselves and actually be a child. The staff have had to cope with this ongoing uncertainty for 3 years now and it isn't fair on them, they work hard to ensure the children of Ely have positive play experiences and opportunities which they will remember for the rest of their lives. They have lost an amazing worker today Dan, who has been an amazing positive influence to the children who attend the centre. All of the staff at Ely are amazing at their profession, they support the children and families not only in happy fun times but also during the hard times. Andy and his team deserve more than how they are being treated by Cardiff council for what they do at Ely playcentre and in the wider community
