Once the land is gone it cannot be reclaimed for community use. Every block was kept by previous Councils although they would also have found it easy to get money from the sale of the land. Every block has some alternative future purpose to being sold for housing. Most blocks are not suitable for building on. It is not clear how Council will make anything like $20 million from sale of these blocks of community owned land.
