America built one identical, they had to fill it with concrete, it got out of control.
This was a breeder reactor producing plutonium to fuel other reactors, it was a success, but due to the British public turning its back on Nuclear Energy the programme was never allowed to be completed.
That old sphere is something the people of Caithness are very proud to be associated with , as should the rest of Britain and even the world.

I served the first year of my apprenticeship there - along with many others who benefitted from Dounreay's training schemes, so owe it my support for that at least.

Also if it has to be decontaminated before it can be dismantled, then why can't it be decontaminated and stay? Unless money is the answer, in which case lets look at other avenues of funding...
