I have enjoyed the ambience of the lovingly restored Burr Theatre for a number of theatrically exciting events. I seem to remember a well attended all canidates meeting there. If you truly want to breathe new new life into the downtown, revive the Burr. I don't understand the concept that suddenly, after standing for so long, the Burr and the Massey must be rebuilt. Aren't there many old, old buildings in the world that were built to last? WHERE and WHAT Civic Centre. Why do we need one?

I believe for the simple reason that the Theatre is one of 2 last atmospheric theatres in BC it should be preserved, restored and used in some capacity. It is the City's responsibility to protect sites that are valuabe historically to the whole province. It should not matter what the cost is, it must be a top priority. Spend the money there instead of silly re-doing 12th street street lamps and trees that were perfectly fine as is, or Hyack Square!!! The priorities of this council baffle me.

Why is the city "hell bent" on destroying so much of our heritage? I believe that the Burr is one of the few remaining (if not the only) atmospheric theatre left in N. America. Once destroyed, it can never be regained. We need the Burr to remain as a tie to our past,especially as we celebrate the 150th anniversary of the city, and as a beacon to the future of the arts in downtown New Westminster.

The Burr must be saved and should be used as a centre for the arts for the youth and citizens of New Westminster. THe council must act now to save the Burr inside and out. refurbishing the Burr is the green way way to go and it can be restored using the DAC funds and grants from the federal and provincial governments. The overall cost will be substantially less than buying property and building from the ground up.

The Burr should be used as a public facility owned by New Westminster because of its heritage value and its unique murals. We seem to be losing all our past historical buildings and venues to new construction or private ownership. Building a new facility will never have the same appeal as what our "Royal City" stands for which is supposed to be rich in history and the arts.

The Burr was a great draw for downtown New Westminster - a place I hadn't gone for years and find I don't go again since the Burr closed as a theatre. The plays put on by Ellie King were wonderful and it was shocking when it closed. Please bring back the Burr and if Ellie would consider returning, we would have events and training again.

It's a shame that the huge heritage value of New Westminster has been/is being wasted as older buildings, ancient trees, and historical areas of the city are razed to make way for highrises and highways. The Royal City could be a fascinating destination for tourists to visit and re-live 'old British Columbia'--much as Barkerville, Fort Langley, and Fort Steele have become viable visitors' meccas. Why can't the Burr be incorporated as part of the new civic facility?
