Tiaja Brown, Calumet City, IL, United States of America
My name is Tiaja and I am a Thornwood alumni class of 2017.
When I was a senior Mrs. Flowers was my Afro American history teacher.
Not only was she a teacher, but a mentor for her black and brown babies. She taught so many of us to walk with dignity & purpose after graduation & throughout life. She deserves to continue teaching and being a big part of our childhood history.
Mrs. Flowers, we love you.

Mia Anderson, Crestwood, IL, United States of America
African American history is an important class to keep. Especially with the way politics, news, and everything in between are being portrayed in this day and age. African American history is already trying to be ignored and deleted. If you’re not informed, history repeats itself. It’s important for students that will be leading the next generation to be educated on the past so they make informed decisions for the future.

Jada Lindsey, Bloomington, IL, United States of America
Respectfully, what is the reason for discontinuing this class and her as the teacher?! Some of my best memories of high school come from her class. Mrs. Flowers taught in a way that helped me learn to understand not just learn to pass. This class helped me become more interested in learning Afro History, actually love my deeply rooted self, and become interested in policy change— something a lot of young, African American students need. She taught in a way that showed she cared not only about the culture but the students in her class (& some not in her class). Don’t take this class from her & the students!

Jeremiah Johnson, United States of America
The mere fact that a petition has even been created to save Mrs. Flowers' class should be all the evidence you need to see just what a profound impact she has had on her students. It's imperative that we do all we can to continue enhancing the minds of all those who come after us, and it seems to me that, in that regard, Mrs. Flowers has done as much as you can ask from any teacher.

Ms Regine Ashley, South Holland, IL, United States of America
Mrs. Flowers has given Thornwood High students more than just a history lesson she has given us pride, voice, and connection. Her African American History class is about understanding where we come from, honoring the struggles and victories of our ancestors, and empowering students to see their place in shaping the future. For many of us, Mrs. Flowers classroom has been the first place we've truly felt seen in the curriculum. To discontinue this course is to take away an opportunity that inspires confidence, resilience, and unity in every student who walks through her door.

Ariana Reno, United States of America
I, Ariana Reno, proudly sign this petition to save Mrs. Flowers' African American History Class. This course is not just an elective-- it is a vital space for students to learn their history, see themselves reflected, and gain the knowledge and pride that shapes confident, informed, and empowered citizens. Discontinuing Mrs. Flowers' class would silence voices and stories that deserve to be heard. I stand firmly for Mrs. Flowers' African American History class.
