Richard Moore, Huntington Beach, CA, United States of America
This is the worst time to cut hours -- just when we need the library most. A committee should be formed now for when the economy revives, to plan the replacement of the Banning and Murphy portables with real library branches.

Renate Mircheff, Huntington Beach, CA
The library has the potential of serving every resident of the city regardless of their age. It crosses generations, professions, interests and incomes. It is a true cultural and community center that celebrates literacy and learning. It should be expanding, not contracting. The library deserves to be at the very top of budget considerations. Where is our money going? We need greater transparency and more voices to speak (to paraphrase Dr. Seuss) for the library!

John Earl, Huntington Beach, CA
It tough economic times the library should have more hours because the public's need for it will be greater. It is an important tool in the search for jobs and in preparation for future employment. It also helps keep young people busy doing something constructive. The city council should consider selling one of its three helicopters and cutting back on city council benefits instead.

Mrs. Juliann Blake, Huntington Beach, CA, United States of America
It is amazing that the wonderful library system of Huntington Beach has been allocated so few dollars. You seem to have forgotten about the need for reading material and Internet usage at this time is at the highest level in years, due to the economy. One branch, Murphy, has even been denied a head librarian, not to mention it has been cut down to 3 days from 5. Unacceptable! Also, have you been to the Central branch on Sundays? It appears to be its busiest day!
