I see my co-op being slowly destroyed. The co-op was a place of community as much as place to purchase healthy products. There has been such a high rate of turnover at the co-op since the new manager took, that I am deeply concerned. I want the camaraderie & love of community back. When I go to shop at my co-op the feel in the air is now one of tension, instead of the friendliness I used to feel. This concerns me greatly. Something needs to be done, and soon.

Mr. Sayre is destroying that which is not his to destroy. The co-op is off course. It is your job to bring it back on course. "Listening" is not enough!" How many more disgruntled members have to find other sources for their food with the corresponding drop in sales before you realize the seriousness of the problem. That problem, specifically, is the wrong person as general manager. Bad change after bad change has been implemented, destroying our co-op bit by bit. Please take the members seriously. For every one who attends a meeting or writes to you, there are many more who have just given up on the co-op and are shopping elsewhere. There is simply no incentive to remain loyal to the co-op under the current management. The survival of the co-op depends on the action you, the board, takes. Please act and soon!

(see below) Maybe RM management needs to attend one of the consumer group meetings held regularly at each Kowalski's location; this is where shoppers' concerns are heard. As one Kowalski's manager said, "“If we don’t listen to (customers), what the heck are we doing here?”
I've been a River Market member since the late 90s. I am still looking for answers as to why so many long-term, competent staff were suddenly let go. Why there is currently a revolving-door hiring policy at River Market? I won't be satisfied until I have an answer. In the meantime, here are:
KOWALSKI’S GOVERNING PRINCIPLES

Why does Rivermarket need two marketing people now, the store hasn't grown any bigger? As a small store we can't afford top heavy management.
Why is the newsletter late? It doesn't help to offer classes that no one knows about half the time.
The co-op is not a regular grocery store. 1.Our mission is to be community oriented, buying local to support local businesses offering source identifiable food.
2.Co-ops were started to be able to buy bulk foods for the community Now the bulk section is shrinking constantly. Bulk food buying discourages wasteful packaging which is the direction our co-op should be moving. Instead there is now more plastic waste than ever in its history. It would help if customers would be encouraged to bring their own containers instead of grabbing the obiquitous plastic bag.
Last but not least the firing of longterm staff is very troubling to me Who is going to teach co-op values to new employees.The current manager has very little experience to fall back on, and does not appear to has a team approach in the management of the store

The prices keep rises while the name brands of choice dwindle! Where has the integrity of the board members gone? It seems to have turned to greed. I used to love our store and all it represented “ for the people”, now that seems to have changed to “ line my pockets and tell the people “ it’s to keep our doors open.”
I trusted the board members when I joined to support our coop! Now, I want to boycott your store.
Please help me understand your reasoning for these greedy and horrible changes. This “ change” is not good.

The increase in pre-packaged plastic items and reliance on out-sourced foods leave me wondering why I should continue to support my Co-Op when I can get the same form Whole Foods or Trader Joes. I chose to shop at River Market because of its ethic. Without emphasizing the value of local farmers, member employment, and community outreach, I might as well get my food from a national chain store where there is more variety and lower prices.
