I support this petition, but not necessarily the requirement that the same tree be placed in the same place for one that has been taken down.

Perhaps Hamilton can take a page from the legacy of the late Albie Dodge of Wenham and encourage memorial tree donations by residents. The obituary of this extraordinary man notes that many of those trees provide the blossoms that line the streets in spring. His life-long efforts as an arborist resulted in thousands of trees being planted in Wenham. Perhaps that is partly why Wenham still has an elected Tree Warden. Both towns probably need to increase their budgets for tree maintenance and replacement. Let's be willing to support that.

I am very much in favor of replanting trees, both downtown and along town roads when the DPW removes the trees. If knowledgeable people decide that replacing with a different tree and slightly different location is simplest and best, that, in my opinion, would still fit with the spirit of this petition. We need to plant for the future, and an organized plan would be so much better than individual citizens planting or not planting when it involves their front yards. A unified plan, a unified look, a commitment to the future - all would be great. We've been told there isn't money to replant, but we need to build it into the town budget to look toward the future. Thank you!

Walking around town today, my wife and I came across several trees marked for removal down by the library. We sincerely hope those trees are replaced as they add character to the street and screening to the parking lot.
