It can be difficult for him to get ideas down on to the paper. After going on the D.C. trip in 6th grade he had to write multiple pages in a journal regarding the different places and experiences. He was so energized and inspired by his field trip that he was filling pages with more confidence then we had ever seen (some pages were overflowing with description).

This trip empowered and challenged him to gather his own thoughts and organize them into experiences he could reflect on. He truly learned history, government, logistics, communication, planning and many more 21st century skills.
This trip is a perfect opportunity for students who learn best in an active, project based setting.

The 6th grade students in the Robious CBG program are ready and hungry for this experience. They benefit from having independence along with the supervision and guidance in how to view our nation's capital.

I believe the 6th grade classes to follow will be forever changed in a positive manner if we continue to support the D.C. Field Trip. I know it made a giant difference in my son's learning and outlook.

How can we expect our children to be leaders in the future if this is the attitude we intend to adopt? This trip in particular is a message to our 6th graders that they can become a leader in this country. The things they are able to see and do on this trip are more than the average person will ever experience because we have teachers that are willing to go above and beyond the call of duty to let these children see the possibilities of the things that could be! Which begs the question, are we going to commit to an attitude of power and possibility? Or will we teach our children that because of all the things that "could happen", we just shouldn't try?

I am currently in Latin IV and am getting ready to go on my fourth VJCL Latin convention field trip. Latin convention has changed me from just picking Latin as my language to graduate to that person who chooses to take the Latin language above the minimum to graduate, and even possibly to the maximum mount. The field trip to D.C. was my favorite of all time. Mr. McEwen and Mrs. Cook set up all of the framework for the trip, and had the students plan what they want to do and who they want to do it with. This allowed the students to achieve the maximum amount of time at each museum along with the maximum amount of education time. This field trip is not just all fun, but it is also educational. Before and after the trip our grade was tasked to read The Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens in English class and complete some assignments based on the book. Also, in English and social studies we had to create a scrapbook on all of the things that we learned about in D.C. with pictures and text on the topic. These field trips did not change me only change me as a student but as a person.

I personally chaperoned last year for my son Justin. What a wonderful and educational experience for the children. To be able to personally see the history of our Country's Capital was worth more than any textbook alone could teach. Each student was required to write a journal about what they saw and what they learned. I know that watching the changing of the guards st Arlington National Cemetery is an experience that my son and I will never forget. To have such dedicated teachers that give so much of their own time so that these students can have this experience is a great gift. To take this away from future classes is a very shortsighted and wrong choice. Please rethink your decision and reinstate this program.

I've heard that this trip has been taken off the table because it is not educational. Who is it that decided this trip is not educational?? That's ridiculous! My son came home from that trip excited to learn more about our government and how it works. He spoke animatedly about the Smithsonian and was in awe of the botanical gardens. He probably learned more on this trip than any other because he was engaged in the learning process. Sometimes it's better to live the experience rather than to read it in a book. I ask you, not only for this years 6th graders, but for my own future 6th grader, to please reconsider allowing this trip to happen.

The hard work and extensive planning by Mr. McCue and Mrs. Cook go far beyond the regular responsibilities of a middle school teacher. They are champions of the expeditionary learning process in its purest form. I am not sure why this has been stopped but I assure you that as a parent that chaperoned I was proud to escort the young ladies and gentlemen of Robious middle school to our nation's capital. It was wonderful to watch them in that environment. Once again, this is an opportunity to expand on a well layed foundation.....for every school.

I think that it is ridiculous that we cannot do the trip this year. I am confused as to why we are unable to go, because nothing bad has ever happened in the 8 YEARS that this trip has been taken. This trip is the highlight of the year every year and we learn so muchc more on this trip than we will ever learn inside a classroom. I think we NEED to get this trip back!

He came from a different feeder school than most of the CBG at Robious. He went on the field trip last year and was able to share a room with several boys, and they were able to better understand and accept him due to this trip. He was under the supervision of three parents (for 4 boys) and they were able to handle his particular issues due to being CGB parents. I cannot emphasize enough how much I think this helped him bond and thus able to COMPLETE CLASS PROJECTS through out the year.

What an incredible experience it was for me to watch 6th graders plan and schedule the activities. They took responsibility far greater than I ever expected. I would hate to see other kids miss out on an opportunity like this was would encourage you to reconsider. CBC is a wonderful program and this trip was very beneficial in them taking ownership in an activity and not just participating.
