A I Baleigh, Stockport, Cheshire, United Kingdom
I too, was a victim of workplace bullying at my local NHS Foundation Trust & unison let me down v. badly as well. In common with other respondents I was threatend with complete withdrawal of all unison 'services' if I tried to access the much promoted legal support advertised by unison. I fought my case myself eventually winning a Employment Tribunal case (with the support of ACAS who were fantastic) & awarded compenation. I complained to the Advertising Standards Authority re unison's tv advert promoting their legal services, unison now have to give guidance to their terms & conditions in their adverts (they use tiny print for this warning of course). Others sectors are 'outed' & dealt with, MPs, errant police officers, charities, businesses, etc but not the unions why is this? Are the authorities too 'frit' - even Thatcher failed to ensure the unions were forced to be transparent, honest & demonstrate integrity in all their dealings. Based on my experiences with unison I would urge public sector workers to invest in private legal protection for employment issues.

Mr Jeremy Bushell, Exeter, Devon, United Kingdom
As a Unison member retired due to PTSD arising from workplace bullying, I am aware that trade unions often fail in this area even when trying to support their members, but often one case is "traded" against another concession from the employer & the individual case is not justly handled.

Unions need to recognize that no part of an organization that allows bullying is trustworthy for obtaining justice. Claimants need legal protection.

Mr Denny Tait, Lancaster, Lancashire, United Kingdom
It is entirely unacceptable that large or small companies can conduct meetings and investigations behind closed doors where the only representation the complainant may have is a union representative who is an employee of that company. This allows he company to "dictate" what is recorded or accepted as having been said at those meetings and to manage the subsequent "investigation" to suit their own purpose and agenda.

Legal assistance or support is far too hard to access.

Mrs Jolanda Challita, SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA, Australia
I think that it is disgraceful that Governments in many countries seem to have funding and power to provide legal aid for criminals but no funding or power to protect their victims from further abuse.

The Complaint handling procedures are designed not to work so fighting it is considered a waste of time. Unions use alot of excuses.

Mr Martin Morton, Birkenhead, Merseyside, United Kingdom
Unison Members contributions should be prioritised for their support and protection and NOT the political levy for the Labour Party.
Unison reps should enable their members to access legal advice to fight workplace bullying and NOT collude with employers HR Departments or do"deals" which are not in the members best interest and sustains a bullying culture.
Moreover there should be an external body which adjudicates members complaints.Unions are self-regulatory, unaccountable and arrogant.

Mrs Ann Whaley, Mirfield, West Yorkshire, United Kingdom
UNISON are continually letting their members down and blaming funds. Yet, they misuse such funds for activities not agreed by their members. I know of quite a few people great;y let down by UNISON and who have lost their health, career and job through negligence or an non-supportive attitude of UNISON representatives. Some of these people may never be able to work again. This ROT has got to stop.
