I am a former foster child who's succeeded and at the price of a lot. I know what it's like to be challenged by life and live under the burden of people believing you wont succeed and not having people there to guide you but know this, those in, and coming from, foster care have the resolve and determination to do many great things and they will. We just have to give htem the chance to shine.

Melissa Muchmore, Ohio, United States of America
Being in the foster care system is extremely challenging and a lot of these young adults would benefit for a longer duration of guidance and support. As a twenty year old myself, I feel strongly for this position in order to make the communities I live in and the foster care system as a whole a better place to benefit not only my future but the future of all young adults in America.

Ms Rebecca Koval, CT, United States of America
I was in the foster care system and was adopted at 16....I am extrememly fortunate....if I had continued going from horrible foster home to foster home and then being dropped at age 18, I don't know if I would still be here. I would not have had the strength to live a good life because the effects of my abuse would have hindered me. I need people who were going to teach me and help me.....18 is too young to be on your own without a family.

The Education & Training Voucher program and the Orphan Foundation of America are both great programs/ organizations that offer former and current foster youth hope, the ability to learn important skills, and prepare them for a life out in the real world. Rock on foster youth of America! Let's change these depressing statistics and show them who we really are!
