I visit Victoria Park every Friday and think that the refurbishment of the facilities is great however short cuts do seem to have been made and the safety of my son has to come first. Fences is just common sense and seen in all public playgrounds. The dog dirt situation is also getting out of control. It is rare that I am not cleaning faeces off either mine or my sons shoes after each visit.

I live in hackney with my partner & 3 kids - we walk along the canal to Vic park, but have been put off visiting due to the fact there now is no fence around an otherwise great playground, keeping dogs & their owners who do not always clean up out. I feel it is an accident waiting to happen. Is that what it needs to take to make it happen? I hope not. The streets are bad enough with dog mess on every stretch. I want my kids to be able to play freely not worried by dogs who may give chase ....

Between us we have 4 children to watch and it's challenging without fences to contain them, especially when they run off in separate directions. Apart from dogs defecating in the parks and young children in danger from speeding cyclists. Going to the park with 2 children under 4 enabled me to allow them play time in a secure environment and let my eldest run free for a while but it's now impossible to manage both kids which has led to us playing elsewhere

We use the park at least once a week and while the new park is welcome a fence is absolutely necessary to protect against dogs running in and kids running out. I've already experienced the former and it totally freaked my kids out.

This fantastic playground is marred by the lack of fence so parents cannot allow their children to play freely in safety: it's size design and undulating landscape means parents cannot see the whole at once, and there are several specially designed hiding place and huts for children installed. While a small playground with no fence could be great, this one is too big to allow safe and relaxed supervision for any parent with more than one child. My main concerns are dogs, strangers and vehicles

Last year, I witnessed a friend being mauled by a dog; surgery and a prolonged stay in hospital were both required; it was an unprovoked attack by an animal ‘who had never done this kind of thing before’. Whilst it is true that ‘children benefit… from the wider environment rather than playing in confined spaces’ many elements of society make this impossible. In the absence of a fence, is Tower Hamlets 100% willing to guarantee the safety of all children using the play area at all times..?

I saw a young boy run out of the park and get knocked down by another little boy riding a bike on the path to the pond there on Saturday, AND a big dog came loping onto the sand pit last week. Luckily, it was friendly.

I'd be more concerned about the dog excrement than anything. It's very difficult to let kids play around and explore if you know there's dog faeces around as it's is potentially a health risk - apart from just being horrible!

The playgorund has been structured with greater focus on landscapping rather than functionality and safety.
Dogs are often running around in the play area and poo'ing in the sandpit!
There is very little for the under 2's, 2 baby/bucket swings is not nearly enough, and i have seen 4 children fall from the top of the large slide, my own son included resulting in much blood and a scar on his lip. It is only a matter of time before something more serious happens!

If the council only consulted with the older set of children who use the area they would have got the result they did get, of course. Because those children are old enough to take better care of themselves and not old enough to be responsible for little ones. How many of the people who have made the no-fence decision are parents? Have they ever tried following a child about carrying bags, clothes, shopping etc? And if you have two children with you and they want to go in different things?

The fencing in of the playground is essential for the safety of our children. It is necessary to keep the kids in and to keep the dogs out. Fences are a must to give parents some piece of mind. The fenced playground is a relief if you have a runaway toddler/small child as I did for two years. Unfenced playgrounds would have meant I literally would not have bothered to go. I bet it was designed my a man with no children!

I often take my two children Victoria Park. They are 18 months old and 4 years old. Unfortunately due to the lack of fencing, the play areas are blighted by dog dirt (risk of illness) and the lack of fencing also means there is a higher risk or the children running out of sight. Please replace the fencing before a child is lost or gets very sick!

i think a the playground area should be fenced off so as to prevent dogs doing there poo-poos there. i have a 3 year old. i also have a dog, but i am always happy to leave my dog outside the playground area, so as not to make any other kids intimidated in case they're scared of dogs (as that would leave me potentially liable under the very wide wording of the legislation regarding dogs). The fence protects the children from accidents, but also the dog owners from potential liability.

As a parent of two children under 5 I am concerned about the lack of fencing around the refurbished playground. Children have a habit of running in opposite directions and as the area is so large and the areas are seperated, it would be much easier to manage looking after their welfare if I knew they were in an enclosed area. The area should be free from dogs, dog litter, and the possiblilty of running away out of the area.

I live on Victoria Park Road, so in Hackney but use the park daily with my two year old daughter. I can not use this playground with ease due to the lack of fencing. It is a beautiful playground but with no fencing it is incredibly difficult for parents to feel comfortable that their children are safe whilst using it.

A park for children without a fence allows access for dogs to roam free and poo when ever where ever and access to people that in reality should not be in a children's playground without having a child with them. A fence protects young children and makes parents feel safer taking their children there.

I have 2 children under5 and love the new playground. However due to the size of the new playground I would feel safer knowing that my children couldnt wander out of the playground onto the road and that dogs cannot get into the childrens area. My 3 yr old was recently very upset by a staffie in the park who barked and jumped up at him whilst i was holding my young baby. The owner eventually got the dog away from him but he is now very scared of dogs and the dog could easily have attacked him.

Im so glad to see this petition. Having eagerly awaited the new playground, was so disappointed to see the lack of fencing. Dogs can and do wander into the playground and it's not relaxing to know my young child can wander out. I consider the fencing of a play area to be a most basic requirement and I'm staggered that a petition is even necessary to achieve this!
