We have had some things stolen over the years, randomly, such as outdoor furniture, holiday decorations, bicycles from our garage, and some cars have been broken into. This fall has been the worst. Since school has started, we have had a large metal sun stolen off the front of the house, an outdoor table we have had on our front porch for about 6 years, an air compressor stolen from our garage, along with a chain saw. We have caught people on our porch trying to steal. One guy tried to get into our house through a side door that was blocked by a table. When that didn't work and my husband opened the door to see what he wanted, he tried to push through to get in. We need more street lights, more tree limbs removed that block the lighting, and garbage cans along the street (less street sweeping).

When we take our dog for a walk there is broken glass all over the place which we try to avoid but several times she has gotten slivers in her paws. I had all my garden solar lanterns disappear or be stepped on and broken one at a time. I have woken up to students sitting on my porch to take a break from walking. I watch and hear them disrespecting our police department as they drive by. Trash cans get tipped over if left by the road for the morning. There voices can be heard over the music I play for my children at night time because they are yelling so loud while walking right next to eachother, and just plain rude when I politely ask " could please not yell there are children sleeping right now". Students are a menace at night and my street seems to be a cosway to different party houses. I support finding a resolution, we all pay mortgages/rent and taxes...we should be getting paid to clean up the mess and listen to the noise.

While living in Plattsburgh for nearly 10 yrs I have witnessed obnoxious and careless behavior from PSU students. There is a huge difference local morale and quality of life when the school is in session. It is unfortunate that we've had to and still do bunker down for the semesters. You never leave anything on your porch because it is likely to be stolen and you always scan the path you walk your dog because there will probaby be broken beer bottles, especially Broad street. Plattsburgh is a NY best kept secret, a great place to raise a family but who wants to do that with hooligans running around with no enforced rules or reprocussions. There is nothing wrong with cutting lose in the college but PSU has turned too much of a blind eye. I've personally seen several occasions of students urinating publicly downtown, throwing beer bottles and trash anywhere they please. They stick their noses up at locals and think it's a small town so who cares about recklesness. All we're asking for is respect, respect for us, our property, and our streets.
