If the council have money to spend on traffic lights they should think about putting traffic lights on the Stony Lane roundabout itself to make it safer as there have been so many accidents on that roundabout due to people mis-judging and pulling out at the wrong moment, not looking properly, speed etc. Also what about all the flooding we have had down Stony Lane? They should invest in flood defenses so peoples properties etc are no longer put at risk. The council before they spend our tax payer money should listen to what we the tax payers want rather than just running with their own ideas.

To this day the roundabout is still a good example of Traffic Planners incompetence, and causes a huge bottleneck at the end of Stony Lane, Christchurch, (Where Time is Pleasant) but not if you are a motorist.
As usual the wishes and thoughts of local residents are ignored if possible by the powers that be, and we the residents just have to suffer the consequences, and of course somewhere down the line foot the bill.

With lights it will also affect the entrance from Martins Hill Lane. I don't believe that pedestrians need more room as they are able to manage as it is. I have never had to pass a pedestrian ever under that bridge and I have lived here for over ten years. Cyclists could maybe do with the space but it is completely unnecessary to do all that work for a few cyclists, who use the road to weave through the heavy traffic in rush hour anyway, as they are usually crossing the road and can't be bothered to stop and wait at the pedestrian traffic lights as that would mean they'd have to come off their bikes and wait. Such a huge unnecessary waste of public money that could be better spent elsewhere. There are often accidents on the stony lane roundabout itself - would this be a better place to add traffic lights? It would certainly improve traffic flow at busy times of the day. I don't normally respond to things like this but I am so cross!

If this goes ahead the queues of traffic along Stony Lane will increase considerably. Even outside peak times it can often take over five minutes to get to the roundabout from the bottom of Martins Hill Lane. The Council need to revisit this matter and take into account the strong feelings of those living in Burton and the surrounding area who constantly use this road to the roundabout. With the road having been closed due to the floods for several periods of time, the traffic along Salisbury Road, through the village of Burton, has been immense and has often been queuing outside my house to get out at the exit onto the bypass almost half a mile away. Salisbury Road is already used as a cut through to the bypass and if this scheme goes ahead this will undoubtably increase the traffic along this road at a time when there are lots of school children walking and cycling along the road to the Grange School which would put them in unnecessary additional danger.
