Midway through a month I actually cancelled my following month's direct debit because the car was changing ownership in the same household on the 1st of the next month and as far as I was concerned I had paid a full month's tax and therefore it was covered. I was contacted by the DVLA advising me my car was not taxed because I had cancelled the following month's DD and the car had to get taxed or SORNED. So despite the same household having paid a full month's tax on the car, I was forced to pay it again. I am appalled by this blatant theft.

If you buy a car at the end of a month and you want to drive it straight away you are paying a full months tax for only 2 or 3 days. Tax needs to run from a specific date in the month ie if you tax your car on 27th Aug 2015 then it should expire on 27th Aug 2016 - simple!! Government screw the motorist once again!
