The intersections feel very unsafe and improving the intersections, would prevent many injuries and deaths. I hope that people speaking up will push New Haven to strictly enforce speed limits and traffic lights to protect the large number of Connecticut citizens medically serving the community.

And what I have never ever witnessed is any attempt on the part of the city or the police to control traffic violations (other than issuing parking tickets, at which they seem to be especially efficient and enthusiastic about). That doesn't sound like a fair statement, but it is true, at least in my experience. I support the city and the police, I know that they are busy, but some effort needs to be made to enforce traffic regulations to help insure pedestrian safety. I don't feel safe walking the streets of New Haven.

The city is laid out and of a size that make it perfect for biking, yet the streets are very narrow and traffic is aggressive. Cities in particular need to be bicycle friendly to reduce traffic congestion. We greatly need to educate those who do not ride a bike to know how to safely "share the road." Many drivers think bicycles are supposed to ride on the sidewalks or that they, the bicycle, should face the traffic. Actually some cyclists think the same thing and have caused me many a scare while I was both on my bike or in my car.

I see multiple blatant traffic violations every time I get in my car, the most common of which is the running of red lights. Although increased enforcement of the laws will cost the city money, the ticket revenue would initially be large, and the changes would make huge safety differences.

I studied the intersection and saw countless people crossing the street in the same manner my brother did in what appeared to be a very busy and dangerous intersection. I can't understand how a bus could travel more than five miles an hour knowing full well the amount of foot traffic and countless people at any one time in that vicinity.

It was a horrifying experience. I am amazed that when I was an undergrad, the only intersections on campus that had a designated time for pedestrians to cross were at Broadway and at Grove/Temple. There should be one at every major intersection. Otherwise, students will continue to cross the street when they think it's safe, and cars will continue to hit the unlucky ones.
