It has taken til year 7 for a (public) school to recognize my daughter's receptive and expressive language delay.We are having an updated speech assessment, and a meeting will be held to discuss an individualized program her her.
She came to me in Year 2 and told me she didn't know her number work, and copied from her friends. Her teacher gave us more math homework, sat her next to the gifted child, and on her end of year report wrote, "she needs to recognize when she needs help, ask for it and not rely on her peers."
Children are treated like sheep, expecting to follow the crowd, keep up or fall behind.

There has obviously been a change in trend, where more and more children are displaying a need for support in gaining their education. This change in trend, absolutely, needs to be meet. Parents, teachers, community members, employers and most importantly the government all have a responsibility to our children to ensure their needs are met. They deserve an equal opportunity.

Students, whether they attend public or privateschools, are entitled to fair treatment and extra assistance if they are beind in their learning. Increased funding to employ staff, provide training and purchase relevant resources is crucial to lessening the gap for these students.

My son has learning difficulties and really struggles at school. He is in a remedial reading group, where he spends time out of the classroom with a group of children also experiencing difficulty with reading. If additional resources were allocated to literacy, and these children could get in-class support, I believe this would have a massive impact. It is difficult for my son to apply his remedial reading "work" to his everyday schoolwork that he is expected to do. Extra teachers are needed

My child has been diagnosed with aspergers and add, and was way behind at school work, but he was diagnosed at 8 years old, so didnt get any of the early intervention from the government, or any other support from them. We have spent the money on essential moves, finally a good paediatrtition, and my imput to make him much better. He gets no support from school, as the government doesnt think he needs it, even thought the experts do.

Our children are suffering because literacy and numeracy does not come easily to all children. Eventually our children grow up into adults and they take what they know with them through their lives. How can they excell to the best of their ability when basic rights such as extra help in the classroom is not offered. As a teachers aid I have seen this time and time again and children are suffering and falling to the wayside. This is such a serious issue so please sit up and take notice.
