I have made more than over half my friends from the Dance community. Break Dance should have equal recognition as a Dance Class because it has a historical background such as any other dance style and if anything the world needs to be educated on it before they misinterpret it. also, on that note is that Break Dance is just as expressive as any other dance style on its own and there is an art form to it. Why should a class/program that is widely received by the student body be removed, especially since it is the most diverse and popular dance class. I thought the concept of college and art studies, in general, is to teach students to be open minded and to accept diversity, which in turn help foster the minds of everyone that is willing to participate, not a select few. This hypocrisy is unjust!

In the early 20th century, contemporary dance was criticized by more traditional dancers for taking ballet's move base and using it in an unorthodox manner. Today, however, contemporary dance is commonly accepted. Hip-hop dance is experiencing this same issue because it is something new to the traditional dance scene. We should take a lesson from history and not maintain the same closed-mindedness as before.

No matter where you are from and what your background is, to be skilled in a form of dancing can bring confidence and the sense of individuality to the youth and maturing adults. If this is a students passion then "we" as the educational system should provide and offer the opportunity for them to learn. We should never limit someone's opportunity to advance in the world.
