I honestly wouldn’t be where I am today if it wasn’t for that centre.

During this time of my life I am at the centre three to four nights a week playing multiple games of Volleyball, filling in for cricket and Soccer and helping out where I can to try and repay what they have done for me.
Wednesday is my Favourite night where I can call multiple of the people there my best friends. Everyone rocks u at 6pm after work for a laugh and games. If you want a sense of community that’s where you go. I’m now a part of a recently created Volleyball club which has members from diverse cultures such as Indian, Turkish, Italians, Germans and Aboriginals. The multi-culture communities is amazing and the fact that all these people can all get along, go away together and “hang out” is simple outstanding to me and a credit to the culture that the centre has created.

Last Wednesday the 28th of march where the Gate were unexpectedly locked I was at work. I got a message informing me that there would be not game and I instantly lost it. My head was all over the place, I didn’t know what to do or how I could help but I knew there could be something I could do to somehow bring the centre together. I organised everyone to go to a park in Reservoir where we all still had our games of volleyball, unlike the centre there were not lights so time was limited but the fact the people actually showed up, show me this isn’t fake and that Thomastown Indoor Sports has to be kept.

The Owners have created a safe haven not only for myself but some many others at the centre. The have created a second home for me where I’m ever in doubt its where I can go. From November 21st, 2017 I am proudly 1 year clean and I thank that centre for the massive part it played, so I plead to the government to step in and rescue Thomastown Indoor Sports so it can continue to be what it is today and what it can be tomorrow.

Has always been welcoming to all that visit

I cannot understand that the landlord can turn away from his obligations to provide the required maintenance and repairs while he/she can can enforce that the rent has to be paid irrespectively. Both sides of the lease contract, landlord and tenant, have to meet their obligations and unfortunately it is very one-sided in this case with all the responsibility shifted towards the Sports center/tenants.
The tenants of the Sports center have done a magnificent job in getting the facilities up-to-date, investing into repairs, and upgrades, thereby clearly showing their intentions of a long-lasting and good relationship with the landlord. I am deeply upset and frustrated that the landlord does not value these efforts and is not willing to find a common ground.

I am certain that the government values our Sports Center knowing that it provides a safe, inclusive and warm environment that encourages people to come together and exercise. Healthy people are happy people that are more productive in the work place.

I sincerely hope that the government supports us to keep the Sports Center open and helps in enforcing to get the necessary maintenance and repairs done by the landlord!
