We also enjoy the benefit of independent shops and regular markets in the town. Faversham town centre shops and the market have been thriving in recent years – the town already has two supermarkets and Tesco is expanding so the arrival of Sainsbury's will have an adverse impact on town centre trade. You only have to look at Sittingbourne to see a hight street reduced to a shadow of itself.

Dave Goodere, Faversham, Kent, United Kingdom
The council and the Faversham Enterprise folk seem toothless against these big corporate stores, people need to stand up to company's who try and bully their into our town. These stores stop at nothing to wipe out competition, however small. Just look at all the retail units in town that are closed (or closing). The campaign to keep Faversham special as my 100% support. I do not want to see Faversham become known as the SUPERMarket town of kings

ann welch, Oare, Faversham, United Kingdom
To grant planning permission a need has to be demonstrated , if there is opposition, which there is indeed. No need can be demonstrated. Therefore the council is on perfectly safe legal ground to refuse permission. For too long councils have taken the word of the applicant that there is need. Any moron can see that there isn't one.(For the people of our town that is ) although I'm sure there are other interests that have no interest in our desire to keep Faversham the unique place that it is.

Eldon Hinchliffe, Faversham, Kent
Sainsbury have badly underestimated the number of shoppers who use Morrisons. Apart from Tesco and Morrisons there are also two other food supermarkets in town - Iceland and Co-op, both of whom do considerable business and all are in the central part of town. An out-of-town large supermarket will have adverse effects on town centre trade and will be unsustainable due to heavy traffic. This application must be rejected.

Geoff Meaden, Canterbury, Kent
The Council officers claim that, even taking into account the Tesco expansion, these supermarket developments will hardly affect Faversham town centre. It is simply impossible to believe that the nearly doubling of the supermarket capacity of the town will not have a large affect on small traders in the town. In reality jobs will go from independent traders to multi-nationals.
