mr. austin whitby jr., Washington, dc, United States of America
I believe that 12 hour shift can lead to emotional break down, fatigues and stressful times to be engage with inmates for that long period of time. Our staff at my institution average age is around 48 years of age. With no retirement program in place, we are forced to remain on the job. Some of the workers are in their late fifties. 12 hour shift will only put the institution in harms way. Also if you call in sick, it will take you a month and half to regain that one day. Last comment. If your department heads are mandated to cut cost, you may start of with a five or four man team in your unit, but as time go by and if they are looking for somewhere to save money, someone is going to say let's go back to three officers in a unit. We use to do the job with three officers. Something to think about.
