It's a shame that we have to use the outfield of other fields for tball. It wouldn't take up that much space or cost that much to make a couple tball fields. I know there is a lot of things that need to be done but I don't believe there is enough people to get it done.

My children have played baseball on fields all throughout our state and Florence's fields are by far the worst field conditions. It seems as if the city, the administration, and its employees do not take pride in the facilities we have. There are so many things that can be fixed without any money being spent, it would just take a little time and effort. There are some major issues that need to be addressed and will cost the city some money. My hope is the city will take this issue seriously and make some necessary changes but I have a feeling, we are in store for more of the same.

My kids played at these facilities 25 years ago and they were in much better condition than currently with my grandkids playing at them. Twenty five years ago Hemphill park was one of the known parks you would enjoy going to and spending a Saturday playing tournament ball. If there were rain in the morning or mid day on a practice or game day the fields were in ready to be played on by that evening.

I hope his petition results in changes being made. I know there are parents who will VOLUNTEER to make our park better but they need the support and cooperation of the PAID city employees to make that happen. This is an election year, so it's time for them to not only listen, but actually make some of the tough decisions that may have to be made or be replaced by someone else who will be responsive to the pleas of the public. Parents, PLEASE speak up if you have a legitimate concern about the conditions of the park and/or if you know of something going on there that needs to change. If we do not let the city employees (mayor Pam Clark, aldermen (John Helms, Trey Gunn, Brian Grantham, Bobby Moudy, Larry Poyner) , and parks and rec employees (director John Mickle)) know, they can and will plead ignorance and nothing will get better. If only a few call, those tend to be just brushed off and not taken seriously.......if more will speak up, they should have no choice but to respond or be replaced. The citizens of Florence have been voicing their concern over the park for years only to be brushed off or ignored altogether. We get the same horrible answer from our Mayor "well we put a lot of money into new dirt and scoreboards", well isn't that the basics of a ball field? We want the full time staff at the park to drag the fields daily before practice and games we want the transitions from dirt to grass to be a smooth and safe one. There's no reason for rainouts after a hard rain in the morning, get out there dig a trench, sweep the water off and put oil dry out. It just takes a little effort, I know because family used to do it and the fields at that time was something that the community took pride in. Now it's an eyesore that other communities dred coming to.. it's time to restore our baseball/softball fields to a place of pride for our kids. The city needs to quit neglecting and start investing in the baseball and softball programs just like they do the soccer side of the park.

Need more restrooms available near park Pavillion where playground is. Also, I agree the fields are in terrible condition. They need to filled in so that it is not a complete mud pit after a little rain. Also, ant beds everywhere. The sidewalks are a serious hazard. Very uneven. Parking is a nightmare. I agree the lighting is not sufficient. We have played with no lights except the ones on the field next to us many times. Richland fields have an alarm that notifies everyone of lightening near so everyone knows to leave. Some coaches will continue to play even though they see it. It would also help to have registration online like other areas.

Track around soccer fields are uneven and separating, side walks in the ball fields are narrow and inefficient ( under water when it rains) no walkway from the four front fields to the back two. Nets are torn and hanging over concession. Some fields hold water and do not drain properly. Some fields don't have bases thy have plastic squares. The jr high field needs a facelift and cleaned up. We pay good money for t ball baseball and softball with our four kids and I believe the city of Florence can produce better recreational areas for our kids and our future. Give them something to enjoy and be proud to call their home field.

Would love florence park to become more like ones in neighboring cities. Parking is a huge issue for us. And it is apartly discouraging to drive in for an event Often change my mind and not enter because of the fear of being blocked in or having car damage

The fields are borderline dangerous to play on in some cases. There are parks all over Rankin County that serve as good examples of what recreational sporting facilities should look like. The taxpayers are paying a salary to an individual who needs to be held accountable for the condition of the fields.

I have personally played at these facilities in the past and I can attest that the maintenance of them currently lack in comparison to 20 or 25 years ago. I have three children, two of which currently play at these facilities. We do not feel that the money we put in for our kids to partake in recreational sports here is put back into the facilities and grounds as it should be.

Not only the ball field need help but the playground area needs some sort of shade plus update done. More things to play on for young and school age kids. The merry-go-round is in really bad need of help and the mud around it makes it hard for parents to push there kids on it.
